Renting with Avis Rent a Car Zimbabwe

On arrival at the Avis rental counter, you will be asked to produce:

  • Credit card or full credit voucher to cover applicable deposits
  • Home address and telephone number
  • Local contact details (hotel/tour operator)’
  • Driver’s license
  • Passport for Foreign Nationals or Zimbabwean ID

For your safety

  • Keep all doors locked while driving.
  • When leaving the vehicle unattended, lock all doors and the boot.
  • Do not leave valuables in the vehicle – personal property is not covered by Avis insurance.
  • Do not leave keys visibly ‘lying around’ in hotel rooms.
  • If the vehicle is to be collected, please speak to the Avis office and hand keys personally to the Avis attendant.
  • Do not hand keys to airport or airline staff when returning the vehicle.

Terms of payment

  • Avis takes a credit card imprint at the time of rental and final adjustments made on termination. We accept VISA, American Express, MasterCard, Avis Charge Cards and Avis vouchers ONLY.
  • When making payment using a fixed value voucher, the cost of additional services e.g. fuel and one-way fees are not included in your voucher value. You will therefore be required to give Avis a second method of payment to cover additional services.

Tips

Renting a car can enhance the flexibility of any trip – be it business or leisure. These Tips are to ensure your safe enjoyable travel. All travellers should use common sense, bypass obvious dangers and respect any local advice regarding safety.

  • Rent a GPS from Avis – directional and road signs are often missing.
  • Watch out for potholes, you are responsible for tyre damage.
  • Do not buy road-side fuel – it is often contaminated.
  • Keep car doors locked at all times, even when you are in the car.
  • Emergency numbers are on stickers on the wind- screen.
  • Please fill in the hanger when you return the car.
  • If you see the Presidential Motorcade (preceded by motorbikes with sirens) pull off the road and remain stationary until the entire motorcade has passed.
  • Watch out for speed signs and adhere to speed limits.
  • Traffic lights are often not working, so exercise extreme caution.
  • Watch out for stray animals on the open roads.
  • Avoid travelling after dark.
  • Do not allow anyone, other than those listed on your rental agreement, to drive the vehicle.
  • In the event of an accident / loss of vehicle :
    • Obtain names and addresses of everyone involved, including witnesses if any.
    • Notify the Police and Avis as soon as possible, within 24 hours of incident.
    • Submit copy of driver’s licence to Avis within 48 hours of incident
